Dance drains your wallet

Dance is a very expensive sport.  You have to pay outrageous prices to have lessons and purchase costumes for recitals and competitions.  So many dancers are struggling to pay dance fees, hoping they will get reimbursed later in life when they are bringing in the dough from their high paying shows.

Many studios have a rule that you have to take double the amount of classes once you reach a certain level. This ensures that you continue to improve so you can be ready for the real world.  It is also just a way to make more money My family of 4 dancers spends over $600 a month on dance lessons.  Thats $7,200 a year!  According to http://dance.about.com/od/youngdancers/f/Ballet_Cost.htm, dance lessons average from $60-$150 a month per person, depending on the number of classes. It also says that costumes average about $75 a peice.  This adds up for 4 girls and 3 competitions a year.
So how much money is too much money if it is something you love?

This source is reliable because it was posted by  who is a dance parent and knows how much it costs it the area near them.  It is a timely source because it was posted in 2012.  The prices for dance would not have changed much within this past year.
